Doug Nelson has spent more than two decades assisting adults and adolescents with various concerns in outpatient settings, schools and structured substance abuse treatment programs.  Since 1999, he has treated dozens of couples as well as more than two hundred individuals and families at his office locations in Virginia and Washington, DC and Florida. Doug Nelson received his Master’s Degree in Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1988 and he managed the Assessment and Referral Department of a psychiatric facility in Richmond.

Doug’s career has also included the facilitation of therapy groups for substance abuse recovery, survivors of childhood abuse and coming out concerns.  He has conducted debriefing groups for persons adversely affected by the loss of a colleague, job loss and workplace violence.  Doug was one of the first civilians who entered the US Pentagon on September 13, 2001 to provide crisis response services to personnel who had been working around the clock since the 9/11 attacks.
