Sean Hilger, Supervisee in Social Work, is a mental health professional who specializes in working with teens and young adults. Sean works full time at the practice and draws upon his extensive clinical experience from Catholic University of America’s counseling center and nonprofit work in DC. He utilizes evidence based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and cognitive behavioral therapy in his work with clients. Sean works to align the therapeutic work with the client’s values and goals in order to support them in building the life that they want to build for themselves. He is passionate about making therapy a collaborative space where clients feel seen, heard, and understood as well as an active participant in the course of their own treatment. He understands that taking the step to go to therapy is a courageous act and strives to create a safe and personalized environment for each client he sees. Typical sessions with Sean include time carved out at the end to review therapeutic work, make adjustments to treatment plans, and brainstorm what is working and what needs to be changed.
In addition to his nonprofit work and work at Catholic University’s Counseling center, Sean has a diverse range of experiences working with teenagers and young adults including leading high school students on both domestic and international trips and mentoring college students at his undergraduate alma mater. Sean knows that individual therapy is only one part of the healing process for clients and strives to help clients build skills that they can utilize in all areas of their lives and create a community around them that supports their goals and values.
Sean received his master’s in clinical social work from Catholic University of America and has lived in the DMV area his entire life. Outside of his professional life, Sean enjoys watching and playing sports, reading good books, listening to music, and watching tv shows.
Sean practices under the supervision of David Paul, LCSW.
